Der Schwedische Finanzkonzern Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken (SEB) verkündete diese Woche das Engagement beim geheimnisvollen R3 CEV-Startup. Was R3 CEV Gründer David Rutter und sein Partner Todd McDonald genau vorhaben, ist der Öffentlichkeit nicht bekannt. Mittlerweile konnten die beiden Visionäre 13 Grossbanken für ihr Vorhaben gewinnen, darunter auch UBS und Credit Suisse.
Wie diesen Sommer bekannt wurde, plant R3 CEV eine Blockchainbasierte “Global Fabric for Finance”. Dies könnte eine Blockchain werden, die allen teilnehmden Banken offen steht: Ein Transferprotokoll für Währungen, Werpapiere etc. Aber dies ist alles (noch) Spekulation. Rasmus Järborg, Head of Strategy bei der SEB äusserte sich heute auf Coindesk.com, einem der Leitmedien in Sachen Cryptocurrencies und Blockchain Technology, wie folgt:
“As a leading corporate and institutional bank, the business-facing applications are immediately of more interest to us. However, we are a universal bank in Sweden and the Baltic countries and as it is quite early to predict which part of our business will be impacted first. We are looking at both [consumer and business applications] at the moment.”
Diese Erklärung lässt natürlich viel Spielraum für Interpretation. Das Engagement der SEB interessiert aus folgendem Grund: Der skandinavische Finanzmarkt ist sehr offen für Innovation. Mobile Payment ist weit verbreitet und daher ist in diesen Finanzkonzernen auch Know-How und Erfahrung im Umgang mit Digitalen Bankprozessen weiter fortgeschritten als in südlicheren Breitengraden.
