Federal Councillor Ueli Maurer visit on August 25 various fintech firms in Zug and Zurich. In the context of the visits, startup firms will provide information on current technological developments, the associated risks and opportunities and the challenges they face.

According to finews he will visit Monetas, Bitcoin Suisse, Crowdfunding platform Wemakeit and Data specialist Swissquant.

A dynamic fintech system can contribute significantly to the quality of Switzerland’s financial centre and boost its competitiveness. Against this backdrop, easing of the regulatory framework for providers of innovative financial technologies was brought into force by the Federal Council on 5 July 2017. This easing should reduce barriers to market entry for providers in the fintech area and increase legal certainty for the sector overall.

Due to the rapidly progressing digitisation in the financial sector, in particular in the blockchain area, it can be assumed that business models will develop which are not yet conceivable today. The Federal Council will continue to follow these developments closely and will swiftly propose the necessary regulatory adjustments if required.

Federal Councillor Ueli Maurer’s visits to the Swiss fintech firms will take place within the scope of his efforts to foster relations personally and regularly with the main players in Switzerland’s financial centre and to get an idea of the current technological developments with onsite visits.
