Economics of Decentralized Virtual Properties

In this study, Prof. Dr. Fabian Schär, professor for distributed ledger technology (DLT) and fintech at the Faculty of Business and Economics of the University of Basel, will analyze the economics of Decentraland, a virtual city based on the Ethereum blockchain and implemented through the use of smart contracts.

The study will focus on understanding the valuation of virtual property with a particular interest in whether the main price drivers in the physical domain also apply to a virtual realm. Conclusions gained from an analysis of the virtual world may lead to interesting insights for pricing models of physical property.
