UBS has embarked on a digital transformation with Microsoft. The bank aims to leverage its vast data resources and advanced AI capabilities to deliver unparalleled client service in the digital age.
The collaboration was driven by UBS’s need for a flexible, customisable platform to enhance compliance, efficiency, and client interactions.
Recognising that off-the-shelf solutions would not meet its specific requirements, UBS turned to Microsoft Azure to build a cutting-edge platform tailored to its needs.
Lukasz Opoka, Head of Analytics and Sales Platform at UBS, explained,

“The collaboration between UBS and Microsoft was driven by our need for flexibility and a robust technological roadmap. Standard out-of-the-box solutions would not work for us. Microsoft Azure allowed us to customise our platform and significantly enhance our service offerings. Moreover, Microsoft’s investments in building secure, local datacentres in Switzerland, and its willingness to strengthen the security policies for us, were fundamental enablers.”
UBS’s journey with Microsoft Azure has enabled the creation of UBS Red, an AI-powered assistant that supports Client Advisors during customer interactions.
Powered by Azure AI Search and Azure OpenAI Service, UBS Red offers multi-language capabilities and seamless access to UBS’s vast wealth of internal data, significantly enhancing decision-making and client service.
UBS has digitised over 60,000 investment advice and product documents into a queryable knowledge base, saving time for employees and improving research and meeting preparation.
This transformation has been built on Azure’s advanced security, management, and operational features, ensuring regulatory compliance while enabling AI-driven innovations.
The impact of this initiative has been felt across multiple UBS divisions. The successful deployment of UBS Red has spurred wider adoption of Azure OpenAI Service, now rolled out to 30,000 employees across UBS’s global operations, including Switzerland, Hong Kong, and Singapore.
By leveraging Azure’s provisioned throughput units (PTUs), UBS has ensured consistent AI performance, reducing latency and improving the user experience.
