BSP Financial Group has completed an upgrade to its reconciliation system, resulting in improvements in transaction processing speed, accuracy, and the overall banking experience for customers across Papua New Guinea and the Pacific.
The upgrade was carried out in partnership with SmartStream Technologies, a UK-based company specialising in financial Transaction Lifecycle Management (TLM).
The development is part of BSP’s broader digital transformation efforts aimed at improving operational efficiency, customer service, and internal processes.
SmartStream’s technology helps streamline reconciliation by automating core workflows and improving financial oversight.
This, in turn, supports faster resolution of customer disputes and contributes to the bank’s long-term operational goals.
Nuni Kulu, BSP Group Chief Operating Officer, said the new system reflects the bank’s ongoing efforts to integrate advanced technologies to enhance service delivery.

“The integration of advanced matching, AI-driven insights, and automated exception management has significantly improved our reconciliation processes. This not only strengthens our risk and compliance frameworks but also reduces manual workloads, enabling our staff to focus on higher-value strategic tasks,”
Kulu said.
She added that the improved system has opened up opportunities for staff development and operational scalability.
“The intuitive dashboards and automation tools make reconciliation faster and more accurate, while also empowering our staff to transition from repetitive tasks to more analytical roles,”
she said.
SmartStream’s Regional Director for APAC, Radha Pillay, said the collaboration aligns with both organisations’ focus on improving operational performance and accuracy.

“We are delighted to support BSP on its innovation journey. Their strategic commitment to automation and operational control positions them as the leader in the Pacific banking sector. We look forward to helping BSP further optimise their systems and services,”
Pillay said.
As part of the upgrade, BSP has adopted SmartStream’s Affinity module, an AI-based solution that uses observational learning to improve automation and support data-informed decision-making.
